By joining our Elizabethtown Section as a Transportation Engineering Assistant I in Hardin County, you'll have the opportunity to, with the specific written approval of the State Highway Engineer, perform beginning level technical tasks in support of transportation engineering programs.
Completes engineering paperwork, low level maintenance and/or construction inspections, basic surveying, and material sampling; and performs other duties as required.
Holders of the Transportation Engineering Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
Serves as quality assurance inspector for single activities of construction work such as laying pipe, roadway striping, concrete coring, earthwork, laying asphalt and guardrail installation for compliance with plans and specifications.
Performs basic quality assurance materials sampling and testing, such as concrete slump and temperature, and asphalt temperature and density Completes daily inspection reports of construction activities Monitors Traffic Control to ensure compliance with all safety requirements Holders of this job title will obtain:
Learns to read engineering plans and specifications for construction of roadways and bridges.
Learns to performs basic calculations of quantities of materials and cost estimates and checks others' calculation of quantities Learns how to use software programs and packages developed to track construction progress.
Learns to operate moderate level surveying equipment.
Assists with establishing centerlines, taking cross-sections and elevations.
